Ariowitsch-Haus, Hinrichsenstraße 14, gezeigt.

Anfang Juli erschien die Broschüre "Stärker als der Tod ist die Liebe".

Die Broschüre ist die erste monografische Darstellung über den Neuen Israelitischen Friedhof Leipzig.

Broschüre und Ausstellung sind erste Schritte zur Verankerung des Neuen Israelitischen Friedhofs in der
städtischen Erinnerungskultur und Ausgangspunkt für weitere Projekte, die auch denkmalpflegerische Arbeiten
und die Schaffung von Erinnerungszeichen auf dem Friedhof beinhalten.

Speech Meeting Afternoon
Christopher Zenker

Dear guests form Israel, USA, Great Britain, Sweden and France,
Also a warm welcome to the members of the jewish community of Leipzig and the members of the sister-city assiosation Leipzig-Herzliya,

my name is Christopher Zenker, i am head of sister-city assosiation Leipzig-Herzliya and also a member of the local Parlament in Leipzig. Hopefully you will understand me as my english is not that good.

I am happy that the visiting-programm for former jewish people from Leipzig and their following Generations could restart after a two year break. Thank you to the adminstration of City of Leipzig, specially to Sven Trautmann and Katja Roloff, Without whom we wouldn’t have been able to see this program through.

A few words to the sistercity assosiation. The sistercity contract between Leipzig and Herzliya in Isreal was signed by the mayors of the two Citys in 2011. So Herzliya is the secound youngest of 15 sistercities of Leipzig all over the world.

As sistercity assiosation we try to connect people between the two cities, for exemple in Sport, Culture or between schools. This was quite complictated during the last two years because of Covid-19.  So we decided to start other procjets, like bringing the „new israeli graveyard“, which was consecrated in 1928, back in local memory cultur.

Thats why today we open for the first time the foto exhibition and present the booklet about the graveyard. This was all possible because one person in our sisterctiy assiosation, thank you to the driving force of the project Eta Zachäus. Also thank you to the historian Steffen Held, the fotograph Fabian Heublein and to the many people who helped at the graveyard. For example Andre Stolle with his Company Reinwald, Margitta Hollick, a former college of mine from the local parlament, and not to forget all of the pupils, students and trainees.
